Like his brother, he wears poppies on his back. He wears a long red robe with gold trim and white piping, and he carries a clipboard and quill with which he reads his reports. ![]() He is usually seen in a prone position while sleeping. Hypnos is of average height for a god and has a slender build. His white hair and golden eyes are the only things he seems to have in common with his twin brother, Thanatos. Hypnos has a lazy expression and curly hair with a pen feather on top. At one point, he suggests that Thanatos "kill all the mortals at once" to make his job easy and thus free up more time together and it can save your brother from your hard work, but Thanatos berates him for the "stupidity" of your idea. Hypnos clearly admires his brother and wishes to spend more time with him, despite Thanatos' cold rejection. Hypnos is considered incredibly positive, considering his work, and it is speculated that his mood is one of the reasons he is not fired. Hypnos cannot be found outside of the House at any point in the game and will remain in the House, unlike Thanatos, who often moves to help Zagreus behind Hades' back. In sharp contrast to Thanatos' work who does it masterfully, Hypnos does not take his work too seriously. He will greet Zagreus and happily comment and note in his report about his last kill. Some dialogue suggests that Hypnos may be bored at work, feel lonely, and want someone to talk to. Achilles speculates that the reason he hasn't been fired yet is that Hades finds him quite funny and considers him an unofficial jester.ĭespite the dark nature of his work, Hypnos is very cheerful, and although he doesn't have the best professional conduct, he is always very receptive. Hypnos it's a serious case of immortal immaturity, constantly slacking off, Hypnos finds many ways to avoid his responsibility of accounting for the dead, from doodling to sleeping. He is the physical embodiment of sleep and is much more powerful than he seems, as he can put the entire House to sleep. In a constant battle against sleep, Hypnos is found sleeping more often than he is found doing his task of accounting for the newly arrived dead in the House while they await judgement.
